New Bella Winter 2020 - Tivoli
Our 2020 new collections launch is now available for sampling! We debuted four completely new lines plus fantastic additions to Cabaret and Tappo at the WCAF in January. Enjoy exploring these new collections of colorful metallics, medieval inspired textures and sophisticated veneers.
The third collection to debut here on the blog, like the first, is inspired by our travels. No visit to Copenhagen is complete without a visit to the amusement park - introducing Tivoli.
TIVOLI
Located right in the heart of downtown Copenhagen is Tivoli Gardens - the second-oldest operating amusement park in the world. (Fun fact: Denmark also boasts the oldest.) Tivoli was the brain child of Georg Carstensen, an advisor to King Christian VIII. In 1843 he sold the king on the idea of constructing a pleasure ground with the advice "when the people are amusing themselves, they do not think about politics". A bit like saying “let them ride the tilt-a-whirl” instead of let them eat cake.
Our Tivoli is also designed to delight and pleasure. When people are amusing themselves in the frame shop, perhaps they do not think “how much is this going to cost me anyway?”. The playful vintage pastel and metallic color palette of our Tivoli are taken from vintage amusement rides. The distinct dot pattern embossing is reminiscent of the colorful lamps that famously illuminated the gardens of Tivoli at night.
The Tivoli collection includes two profiles - a 1” wide flat and a deep-lipped cap. (The cap is the same profile as the Raku deep cap.) Both profiles have an embossed texture on the top.
Tivoli are all gold or silver leafed with color washes over the leafing. As with any fine hand-finished line, you will see some breaks in the leafing and slight variation in color. The embossing on the flat version allows the red clay bole under-layer to show through to varying degrees - sometimes showing more bole and sometimes more leaf.
Tivoli’s texture and metallic shine are perfect for playful or amusing prints and photographs. The 1” flat profile is an excellent inside accent frame for eclectic mirrors or larger prints. No matter what, we will be pleasantly amused to see what you end up pairing with this collection.
