CONGRATULATIONS to AMY SULLIVAN

Amy’s winning entry is a tidal wave of creative custom fine art and framing. One of Amy’s long-time customers was inspired by her Prisma display and a small 6” x 6” triptych piece hanging in the gallery by artist Sandra Kavanaugh. Sullivan Framing is privileged to be one of Sandra’s New Hampshire galleries.

The customer commissioned a larger version of one of Sandra’s ocean scapes to hang above a fireplace in their beach house. An acrylic frame is maybe not the most obvious choice for this project, but the client fell in love. In fact, she chose the bright blue Ocean color first and made sure the commission from the artist would coordinate with the Prisma frame.

The painting is on three panels which Amy built up on a linen wrapped board and secured into a wooden floater frame. The sanded Ocean Blue Prisma was siliconed to cap off the face of the floater frame. Here at Bella we cannot recommend any kind of glue as being 100% tested or fail-proof, but many customers have created similar designs. (Some glues can have a bad reaction to the paint.)

This is not Amy’s first foray into Prisma + Wood framing. Amy says she is “not intimidated to use Prisma for 3 dimensional art” and has found success with building up her frames to get additional depth in similar situations. Amy did ask for helpful tips from the online framing community on how to best stack and glue a Prisma frame to wood.

There is a magical glow from the finished product due to how the light travels through the Prisma since it stands further out from the wall. The client was absolutely thrilled and loves how the sanded finish reminds her of beach glass. Prisma goes over well in Amy’s coastal community, particularly colors that reflect water or the beach along with the soft sea glass look of a sanded Prisma frame.

We love what Amy created and celebrate projects that use our custom products in even more custom ways. Seems like a good opportunity to just drop in a quick reminder that Prisma can be ordered as a floater profile. There is a limitation on the depth of the acrylic, however, so a solution like Amy’s could be better for deeper canvases.
