New Bella SPRING 2022 - Ellington
Get ready to roar with a step back in time to the Roaring Twenties (1920s, that is) and a celebration of the illustrious jazz age. Our next Bella introduction, Ellington, is a smooth, stylish homage to jazz, aka “America’s classical music,” and one master of it in particular, Duke Ellington.
Born in Washington D.C. in 1899, Ellington would find fame in New York from the mid-1920s through his orchestra’s appearances at the Cotton Club in Harlem. Ellington would go on to write or collaborate on over 1,000 compositions, giving him the largest recorded personal jazz legacy. Known for his inventive use of orchestra or the “big band,” Ellington was also renowned for being equal parts eloquent and charismatic.
Given his stature in American music, we had a high bar (or should we say high note?) for our new Ellington collection. All kinds of smooth and shiny, just like Ellington himself, a dramatic 2 3/8” angled face block comes in five metallic and pastel shades ranging from Cotton Club Pink to a bold Count Basie Bronze.
In a slimmer 9/16” Tiny Tracks block the small, striated lines add a subtle but showstopping element of drama to five shades from a Moody Indigo to a Sophisticated Lilac.
With looks this rich and full of style, it’s hard to not imagine any piece looking like the bee’s knees in them. We had a lot of fun framing up a photo of the famed Chicago jazz institution, Green Mill Cocktail Lounge.
You can also go totally different stylistically using it on simpler pieces like we did with a floated vintage drawing of a piano. And, of course, how could we resist doing up a proper vinyl in the lavender Tiny Tracks? Play on.
