Interior Design Trends for 2021

Interior Design Trends for 2021

For 2021, interior design is more important than ever.

Pandemic living is definitely impacting the way we look at our interiors. While stuck at home, there is a lot of time to contemplate how our interior design choices can impact quality of life. If you are spending both work and leisure time in your living space, it needs to be pleasant and offer a sense of well-being. And so our untouched travel and entertainment budgets are given over to redoing things around the house. Rooms are being converted into home offices or sanctuary spaces to relax and read or simply Zen out and take pleasure in doing nothing at all. Lucky for us framers, these renovations involve adding new framed pieces or updating old looks. Another boon for frame shops in this period is the connection we offer to our community to spend money locally and appreciate custom-made craftsmanship.

Interior Design Trends to look for in 2021

BRIGHT AND BOLD COLORS

If we have to be home more often, we need some daily infusions of energy and excitement. Austere all white minimalism is being brushed aside in favor of bright walls and cheerfully bold accents. Time to have fun with color and make sure our spaces spark some serious joy.

LIGHT WOOD TONES

Dark brooding walnut is out. Scandinavian interior inspirations continue to be in vogue with lots of light and bright raw wood tones. This includes beech, ash and anything whitewashed that will also bring the some organic indoors for a bright and tactile natural aesthetic.

MODERN 80s

As long as we don’t have to grow out feathered bangs, I can embrace an 80s flashback. In interior design this means a nostalgic return to materials with some shine like glass, gloss lacquer and brass accents. The Modern 80s trend includes geometric shapes, funky playful patterns and bright pops of color. Pop Art will be back in vogue for the walls along with statement pieces covered in checks, curves and squiggles.

Grandmillenial Style

Everything old is new again. Influenced by pandemic-necessitated inter-generational households, grandmillenial features creative pairings of retro with contemporary to create an environment all about comfort, nostalgia and traditions. This new trend also goes by the moniker “Grandma Chic”. Grandmillenial encompasses classic decor like flowery wallpaper, wicker, fine china, antique paintings and crocheted throws but combines them with modernity and surprising, funky color schemes to create whimsy. It’s touches of kitsch and vintage but with a cleverly curated restraint.
