Hi!

Welcome to the Bella blog. Here we discuss the beautiful world of handcrafted mouldings for framing. We hope you have a nice stay!

New Bella WINTER 2024: Terrazzo

New Bella WINTER 2024: Terrazzo

While we have much love for Trulli and Vasari, the first two of our Winter 2024 introductions, we’ve been itching to share our last (but clearly not least!) new line with you.

MEET TERRAZZO

The iconic name says it all. Terrazzo is a famed Italian material, very commonly used in tile, that has been called “confetti for adults.” Much like the framing artisans we work with at Bella, Italian Terrazzo is regarded as a craft passed down for generations amongst family businesses.

Up for a little history lesson? During the 15th century, mosaic tile and marble were highly in demand. But Venetian craftsmen were ahead of their time in upcycling before upcycling was a thing - they reused remnants of marble and mosaics from their projects to form Terrazzo, an eco-friendly material right out of the gate.

Terrazzo made its debut in the late 1800s in the United States, however it experienced a particular renaissance amongst midcentury designers for its sleek look that did not compete with the bold angles of midcentury design. To this day, it remains a popular look not just for flooring but for Terrazzo-print items at retailers big and small - everything ranging from furniture and wallpaper to tabletop and paper products.

Its translation in Italian means “terrace” and adheres to one of our great Bella design philosophies - celebrating nature and bringing the outside in. Our new Terrazzo line includes three eye-catching profiles: a cube with a ¾ inch face, a cap with a 1 ⅜ inch face and a floater with a 1 3/16 inch face.

The color palette pays homage to the dynamic hues found in Terrazzo: Obsidian Black, Sandy Beige, Shale Grey, Dolomite White, Slated Green and even a Terracotta shade. The gloss finish on the frames gives the extra sheen to allow any artwork to literally shine.

How to use Terrazzo? The possibilities are endless but we particularly love it on geometric and modern abstract art and travel photos. We even used it to frame (duh) a Terrazzo tile.

If you’ll be attending the West Coast Art & Frame Expo (the first one in four years!) come check out Terrazzo in all its glory in booth 1201. Trulli and Vasari will be there too, as will so many of our past introductions we haven’t had the chance to showcase in person yet. Bella retrospective anyone?

See you there!
